DESCRIPTION:\n\nJewish Voice for Peace New Haven (JVPNH) is partnering with
  Greater New Haven Peace Council to present Courageous Women of Resistance
 \, a celebration of women from Standing Rock to Palestine.\n\nMadonna Thun
 der Hawk\, a member of the Oohenumpa band of the Cheyenne River Sioux Trib
 e\, is co-founder of Women of All Red Nations (WARN)\, as well as the Blac
 k Hills Alliance—which prevented corporate uranium mining in the Black H
 ills and proved the high level of radiation in Pine Ridge reservation’s 
 water supply. She was a member of the American Indian Movement (AIM) and o
 ccupied Alcatraz and Wounded Knee in protest of the federal government’s
  genocidal policies against Native Americans. She spent months camped in 
 Standing Rock to oppose the Dakota Access pipeline.\n\nFayrouz Sharqawi wo
 rks as the Advocacy Coordinator at Grassroots Jerusalem\, a platform for P
 alestinian community-based mobilization\, leadership and advocacy in Occup
 ied Jerusalem.  She provides political analysis\, and has a broad and exp
 erienced understanding of development and resistance to oppressive policie
 s under the Israeli occupation. She has a BA in Journalism and English Lin
 guistics\, and a Masters in Conflict Resolution.\n\nCome be inspired by th
 ese two representatives of the many women throughout the world who with co
 urage and unflagging determination work for justice and human rights in th
 eir communities. By refusing to be silenced or compromised\, these women a
 re speaking truth to power and in doing so\, they are helping to bring enl
 ightenment and engagement in the struggle to build a better and more peace
 ful future for their children.
